Here I talk about and mention some of my favourite moments and parts from my first year of studying footwear design.
My first year was full of highlights as I had learned a lot of helpful and important information which is fundamental in footwear terms. One of my highlights from Year 1 was being able to work with leather for the first time and making my first ever shoe which was the brown suede pump. I also really enjoyed the design process of the shoes and how much freedom that us students were given to create our own unique footwear.
The visit to Leicester’s STOLL was a very fun experience for me because it taught me a lot about how important sustainability has become in the fashion and footwear industries and also how knitted textiles function and can be introduced into modern footwear especially in sports brands. Since I have an interest for sneakers and basketball shoes, the fact that I had already known about some of the technology such as ‘Battleknit’, which is used on the upper of Nike’s Lebron basketball shoes, made the STOLL visit even more fun for me.
